Wedding Video by Matt Mixon
"The sum of all our evolution, our thinking and our accomplishments is love. A marriage makes two fractional lives a whole. It gives to two questioning natures a renewed reason for living. It brings a new gladness to the sunshine, a new fragrance to the flowers, a new beauty to the earth, and a new mystery to life." -Carl Sagan
If I've ever had an impossible task, it has been to choose a reasonable number of images for this blog post. How is one supposed to choose between images when a wedding of two such attractive humans happens in the most gorgeous place imaginable surrounded by such fun and loving friends?
Gelyn and Bill contacted me last year about photographing their wedding, and although we had many mutual friends, we had never formally met. I had no idea that they would, in one short year, become so near and dear to my heart. These two are the kind of people that others are immediately drawn to: kind, talented, caring, funny. Last winter, Gelyn taught me how to knit. They're easy friends to love. I knew that their wedding would be full of people from across the country who were the same... and I was right!
After getting ready early in the morning in a friend's beautiful vintage home, we drove to the Columbia River Gorge where Gelyn and Bill had exactly what they wanted: an intimate ceremony with only a few friends and family there to bear witness. I don't know what to say here except that I will remember this one forever. They read Carl Sagan during the ceremony. I cried behind my camera. I'll let the photos do the talking.
Gelyn and Bill had their wedding reception at Tillamook Station here in Portland, where the rest of their friends and family gathered to eat Sizzle Pie Pizza and to pose in the darling vintage inspired photo booth.
All in all, this wedding was a great reminder to me of why I do what I do, and that's such a gift.
